Build a Beast With Project Onward

Sunday, 5/3/26

Workshop • Room 311

Help build a bestiary at this fun and informa workshop! Neurodiverse art studio, Project Onward, sends three of its finest (Bill Douglas, Mariah Smith, Noon Slaps) to join you in making enough serpents, fiends, and imps to blot out the sun. Whether your creature is monstrous or magnanimous, Project Onward's artists will be there to help along the way! All materials are provided and all skill levels welcome.

Project Onward is a studio and gallery dedicated to the creative growth of adult artists whose lives are impacted by mental illness and developmental disabilities. Follow Project Onward: @projectonward on Instagram, www.projectonward.org

Mariah Smith (she/her) creates vibrant worlds and populates them with fantastic and funky characters. With color pencils, markers, paint, chalk, wire, and a patchwork of fibers, Smith draws and builds aliens, sea-witches, kittens, and most of all, lots of dragons. Bill Douglas (he/him) is a restless multimedia experimenter, using drawing, painting, woodcarving, book-making, assemblage, and collage, to express his wild visions. His imagery draws on dreams and unvarnished autobiography, mixing tragedy with humor. Follow Bill: @williamcdouglasart on Instagram, projectonward.org/artist/william-(bill)-douglas

Noon Slaps (they/them) makes abstract paintings that incorporate blob-like forms, winding linework, and vivid complementary colors. A self-taught artist, they layer watercolors, acrylics, gouache, alcohol markers, and gel pens in wild combinations. Follow Noon: @noonslaps on Instagram, projectonward.org/artist/noon
