Center on Halsted

Center on Halsted

CAKE will take place in the Billy Jean King Recreation Center, which is on the 3rd floor of the Center on Halsted, 3656 N Halsted. The Center on Halsted is located on the North West corner of Halsted and Waveland, and shares the building with Whole Foods. Here’s how to get there:

PUBLIC TRANSIT!
We recommend taking public transit to CAKE (it’s easier and better for our city). Google maps is a reliable way of planning your trip via public transit. The bus routes listed below are the most direct ones, but other busses service the general area as well.

By Train:
Take the CTA’s Red Line El to the Addison stop (on the north branch of the Red Line). Exit the station (which exits onto Addison St) and walk AWAY from Wrigley Field (which is visible from the train). Follow Addison until you reach Halsted Ave. Take a left at Halsted. The Center on Halsted is just beyond the Whole Foods at the corner of Halsted and Waveland.

By Bus:
#8 Halsted Bus. The #8 terminates (and originates) its route pretty much across the street from the Center on Halsted, so if you take the #8 heading North, they’ll kick you off the bus just East of the Center.
#22 Clark Bus. The #22 stops a few blocks West of the Center on Halsted. Get off at Waveland (just north of Wrigley Field), and walk approx. 6 blocks East (past Wrigley Field) to Halsted.
#36 Broadway Bus. The #36 stops one block East of the Center on Halsted. Get off the bus just south of the intersection with Halsted (if you’re heading south it’s a weird stop called “3726 N Broadway, if you’re heading North, it’s Broadway & Waveland). Walk one block East toward the Center on Halsted.
#152 Addison Bus. The #152 runs East-West along Addison, and stops at Halsted, just walk one block north (away from the Gas Station, toward the police station), the Center on Halsted is just beyond the Whole Foods at the corner of Halsted and Waveland.

BY BIKE!
Halsted has bike-lanes. Broadway and Clark are nearby diagonal streets, that are useful, but can get a little hairy at times. There are a bazillion bike lock-stands in front of the Center on Halsted, and in the Whole Foods parking garage.

BY CAR!
If you have to drive, please keep in mind many streets in the general neighborhood are permit-parking for residents. Parking gets very difficult in the area especially during the summer, since the Cubs play in the neighborhood. The cubs are away CAKE weekend, but the neighborhood will still be pretty busy.
Parking: There is street parking on Waveland, West of the Center on Halsted. There are also a lot of parking garages and parking lots in the area, including a garage at 808 W Addison. DO NOT PARK YOUR CAR IN THE WHOLE FOODS PARKING! It’s the weekend, so they’ll be super busy, and it’s safe to assume they’ll tow you if you’re not using their parking to shop at the store. For serious.
