Applications for CAKE 2016 Will Open on November 2nd!

Applications for the 5th annual Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE) will open to the public on November 2nd! We are also pleased to announce that CAKE 2016 will take place at the Center on Halsted in Chicago, IL on June 11th and 12th. Confirmed Special Guests for 2016 include Tyrell Cannon, Ezra Clayton Daniels, Cathy G. Johnson, Sammy Harkham, Patrick Kyle, and Laura Park. More Special Guest announcements of Special Guests will be coming soon!To celebrate the launch of the 2016 exhibitor application, we will be announcing the winner and runners-up for the 2016 Cupcake Award! Keep your eyes peeled for the official announcement on November 2.The application for CAKE 2016 will close to the public November 30th. About the CAKE Jurying Process

CAKE is a curated show, and the organizers aim to highlight the best artists working in independent and alternative comics, established and emerging, with an equal care for small press publishers and self-publishing artists. We hold ourselves and our panel of jurors to a broader standard than personal aesthetics in order to create the diverse and representative festival for which CAKE has become known. Additionally, CAKE strives to be a demographically inclusive show that reflects, encourages, and advances the full diversity of artists working in our community.For the first round of jurying, CAKE organizers reach out to a broad selection of people in and adjacent to the Chicago comics scene, so that our show best reflects the interests and aesthetic of the wider community. For the second round of jurying, the CAKE organizers make final nudging assessments to lobby for artists who did not make the cut, and to assure that the final exhibitor list reflects the rich variety of creators in alternative comics.
